HGV’s Upcoming Resort Supports Sustainable Tourism in Japan, Promotes Local Travel to Vacation Owners
Tokyo, Japan (December 7, 2020) – Hilton Grand Vacations (NYSE:HGV) continues to expand its brand presence across the APAC region with the start of sales for The Beach Resort Sesoko by Hilton Club. Serving as HGV’s first timeshare resort in Okinawa, the 140-unit resort is located on the beautiful, remote island of Sesoko and will complement the newly opened Hilton Okinawa Sesoko Resort. Following completion of the project alongside leading private development company, Mori Trust, the resort is on schedule to open in late 2021 and begin welcoming guests in January 2022.
“With The Beach Resort Sesoko serving as HGV’s second resort in Japan, we are proud to continue expanding our presence in the APAC region,” said Mark Wang, president and CEO of Hilton Grand Vacations. “We are honored to be working alongside renowned industry leaders Hilton and Mori Trust as we move toward bringing this highly anticipated resort to life."
“In addition to announcing the opening of Hilton Okinawa Sesoko Resort, Mori Trust is delighted to introduce the attractions and natural beauty of Sesokojima to travelers,” said Miwako Date, president of Mori Trust. “Offering medium and long-term stays, the resort is a beautiful place for leisure travel as well as a workcation, offering breath-taking views and peaceful, natural surroundings. People’s ideas and lifestyles are evolving to the new normal, and Mori Trust seeks to lead the way in promoting the idea of how to ‘enjoy your vacation like a local’ to encourage travel and help travelers fulfill their lifestyles.”
HGV has a significant business base in Japan with over 67,000 owner families based there. With domestic visitors accounting for 70% of total visitations to Okinawa, HGV’s Japanese owners will value the convenience and ease of a local vacation ownership option.
In addition, the prefecture of Okinawa is served by Naha Airport, which offers connectivity to 19 airports in Japan including most major cities, as well as a number of cities in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and South Korea. The Okinawa Convention & Visitors’ Bureau (OCVB) forecasts that the number of visitors to the island will exceed 10 million in 2021.
“Thanks to our dedicated owner base in Japan and the projected increase of visitors to Okinawa, The Beach Resort Sesoko is successfully positioned to deliver new vacation memories to guests,” said Jeff Bernier, regional SVP of sales and marketing, APAC. “We are listening to our owners by providing unique experiences for destinations they request. This resort also supports Japan’s vision of creating a more sustainable tourism market, as we have partnered with local businesses to offer our owners a variety of choices via our special HGV premium pass program.”
HGV worked with designer Yukio Hashimoto, who also designed the company’s first Japan resort in Odawara.
“It is an honor to work once more with the team at Hilton Grand Vacations to add another luxury resort to its Japan portfolio,” said Yukio Hashimoto, designer at Hashimoto Yukio Design Studio. “HGV is known for developing resorts in some of nature’s most beautiful settings and Sesoko aligns with this trend. Similar to The Bay Club Odawara, the design and aesthetics of The Beach Resort Sesoko are inspired by the natural surroundings that make it a sought-out destination for travelers.”
HGV is offering several unique marketing packages for this resort. In partnership with JALPAK, Japan Airlines’ overseas and local package tours offers Japanese tourists with booking assistance via travel agencies, tours, and other travel related services. The JAL Dynamic Package helps engage both new and existing guests with complete package offers for air and hotel at Doubletree Shuri and Hilton Sesoko. The Weekday Getaway Package provides choices and flexibility to guests, with options that range from two-to-three-night stays or a combination of one night each at Doubletree Shuri and Hilton Sesoko. To further support sustainable tourism in Japan, HGV promotes the unique offerings of local businesses by creating a passport program with deals for restaurants and activities in Okinawa. Travelers can find information about the passport program at the HGV marketing desks at Naha Airport.
